154,000 European Tour dollars destined for Tommy Fleetwood were mistakenly paid to him.

They share a surname and a passion for golf, but little else… until a banking error caused the $154,000 of the famous Fleetwood – the Englishman Tommy – to be paid into the account of the anonymous Fleetwood, the American Thomas Fleetwood, a club pro at the Streamsong Resort in Florida. That money corresponded to the English player’s prize for having finished twelfth in the British Open.
Fleetwood playing in the PGA Championship at Bellerive this week told the Press Association of Great Britain that he didn’t know if he had been paid “because I don’t really look at (his bank account).” But a friend of the American Fleetwood, Greg Thorner, posted a screenshot of his friend’s bank account showing that the European Tour had paid the wrong man.
“I didn’t believe him at first,” Thorner told the Press Association, “but then I saw him log into his account and I thought, shit.”
