6-year-old New Zealander makes hole-in-one in American tournament

Some golfers never get a hole-in-one, but New Zealand’s Yuri Lee has done it before her seventh birthday. The 6-year-old from Auckland accomplished the feat during a tournament in the United States.
Yuri, whose golfing idol is compatriot Lydia Ko, started playing golf a year ago after she was made a member of Golf Warehouse for her sixth birthday, said her mother, Ulliana Lee.
Yuri had seen Ko play in a couple of tournaments, and wanted to try to follow in his footsteps in the sport.
“She’s been practicing a lot and she’s very passionate, so we’re just trying to support her,” Ulliana said.
Yuri, who plays with her grandparents on weekends at a par 3 course in Greenlane, participated in several U.S. tournaments last month, placing third in the IMG Academy World Junior Championship and second in the FCG International Junior Golf Championship.
It was at the San Diego golf course where she made her first hole-in-one. Her father was caddying with her.
Ulliana said Yuri was so excited that she was grinning from ear to ear when she told him, “Mom, Mom, I made hole-in-one!”
“Being in the middle of the tournament also made it even more exciting,” said her parent.
San Diego Golf Club recognized Yuri’s achievement with a certificate.
