The couple formed by the Andalusian Gonzalo García (El Candado Golf Club) and Ana Peláez (Río Real Golf) has won the Spanish Mixed Doubles Championship 2015, which was held this weekend at Río Real Golf course (Marbella, Málaga).

The first day, played under the Fourball modality, was a day of maximum equality. The pairs formed by Alberto Fernández and Andrea Rosete, on the one hand, and Gonzalo García and Ana Peláez, on the other, co-led the competition, both tied with 67 strokes and a lead of two over six duos that intended to put up a fight in Sunday’s round.

Carmen Belmonte and Pablo Carrascosa; Aitana Hernández and Miguel Ángel Herrero; Marta García and Iñigo Maruri; María Parra and Juan José Luque; Sergio Domínguez and Sara García; and Sara Navarro and Antonio Pimentel were lurking in this first round.

In the second round, in this case under the Greensome modality, the good game of the winning couple was decisive, who ended up in the clubhouse with a card of 69 strokes unreachable for the rest of their competitors.

With a total of 136 strokes, Gonzalo García and Ana Peláez took a five-stroke lead in the final classification over the pairs formed by Marta García and Iñigo Maruri, who carded 72 strokes on Sunday, and Alberto Fernández and Andrea Rosete, who with 74 strokes also finished with 141 strokes.

Miguel Angel Herrero and Aitana Hernández finished with a total of 143, the fourth pair to beat the field and finish under par.

Forty couples have consolidated this tournament as one of the most important on the calendar. The good level of the competitors or the extensive waiting list are indicative of the depth of the event among Spanish players, in an event jointly sponsored by the RFEG’s Men’s and Women’s Technical Committees.

The awards ceremony was attended by Miguel Navarro, Secretary General and Manager of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation; Luis Navarro, Director of Rio Real Golf; Luis Mansilla, President of the Men’s Committee of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation; and Eugenio Alises, Chief Referee of the Tournament.
