The first nine holes are a typical “parkland” that run through gentle hills, without much vegetation and without lakes. The second nine, on the other hand, are more hilly, with more slopes and water coming into play on several holes.
A few years ago Miguel Angel Jimenez completely redesigned the course, so it can be said that this is the only course on the Costa del Sol of the great player from Malaga.
We are in the best moment of our history,” says Salvador Álvarez, director of the club, “for a very simple reason, because when this club was built, it was not “finished” as planned, both in terms of the course and the clubhouse, an old 18th century mansion. We had to adapt to the budget and we did what we could.
“In subsequent years,” adds Álvarez, “with the effort of the members, the directors and the staff, we have been fixing and doing what could not be done at the beginning, which is why we are reaching an optimum moment. If we compare photos from 1990 and now we can appreciate the abysmal difference in the field. What happens is that we are reaching this “sweet spot” at a time when, due to the passing of time, we have to start modifying and reforming things… We have managed to reach, in many aspects, a very high level, especially after the structural reform that Miguel Ángel Jiménez made a few years ago”.
It could be said,” concludes the club’s director, “if there were a classification of the courses, that Guadalhorce Club de Golf has moved up a category”.
