Sweden’s Henrik Stenson has marked a milestone by becoming the first European to win the FedEx Cup in the United States, a title worth ten million dollars. The Nordic player has achieved it thanks to his victory in the Tour Championship, a tournament that has gathered in Atlanta the thirty best players in the closing of the North American circuit, the PGA Tour.
Stenson, the most in-form player of the last two months, won at East Lake Golf Club with 267 total strokes (13 under par), three strokes behind Americans Jordan Spieth and Steve Stricker, and four ahead of American Web Simpson.
The Scandinavian has also won the final victory in the PGA Tour’s FedEx, beating the world number one, American Tiger Woods, who shot 67 in the fourth and last round and finished at par in 22nd place.
Sergio Garcia finished in ninth place, eight strokes behind the winner. The Spaniard finished with his best card of the tournament: 67 (-3).
