Rafa Nadal has added one more victory to his brilliant sporting career, the one achieved at the Pula Golf course in Mallorca, where the Olazábal & Nadal Invitational, the charity tournament co-starring with José María Olazábal, has been held, bringing together professionals and amateurs from all over the world on the island of Mallorca for a cause of solidarity: to support the most disadvantaged people.
The tennis player has won thanks to the game developed by all the members of his team, finishing the competition with 122 under par, compared to the 104 under par of the team captained by José María Olazábal. Thus, for the first time in the three editions held so far, there is a winner, since on the two previous occasions the weather conditions prevented the completion of the tournament.
The Olazábal & Nadal Invitational by Pula Golf Resort is thus consolidated as a meeting point for international golf stars such as Paul McGinley, Suzann Pettersen or Carlota Ciganda, who have made an exhibition of their game together with other golfers of the level of Alejandro Cañizares, José Manuel Lara, Eduardo de la Riva, Jordi Garcia Pinto, Ricardo Santos, Emanuelle Canónica, Santi Luna, Jesús Legarrea or Lorenzo Gagli.
After collecting the trophy from José María Olazábal, Rafa Nadal thanked all the participants for their contribution to this tournament, and wished that “it will continue to be held for many more years”.
The proceeds will go to the Rafa Nadal Foundation www.fundacionrafanadal.org and Sport Mundi, www.sport-mundi.org of José María Olazábal.
The first of them invests the funds in the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center, the organization’s first own project -after 7 years developing projects in collaboration with other entities-, which offers education and transmission of values through sports to children and young people from Palma de Mallorca who live in socially disadvantaged situations.
In the case of the Basque golfer’s foundation, it supports the activities being carried out by Caritas, both in Spain and in Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon, to help people in need of emergency aid.
