La Cala Resort unveils new tunnel, parking expansion and Hole 64 in 2026

La Cala Resort has completed the latest phase of its guest-experience upgrade plan, opening a new access tunnel, additional road infrastructure, extra parking spaces and Hole 64 on the Asia course. The complex, set in the hills above the Costa del Sol and home to 63 holes of golf, has unveiled the new facilities as part of an ongoing investment programme designed to make every visit smoother, easier and more enjoyable.

The newly opened phase is part of a 5 million euro infrastructure project covering parking, roads and the new tunnel, and follows the recent completion of major refurbishment works at the La Cala Resort hotel. The openings were marked with a formal event in Mijas Costa attended by clients, media, local government representatives and invited authorities.

A 5 million euro investment to improve access to La Cala Resort

The new tunnel, road network and parking improvements are designed to optimise access and connectivity between the different areas of La Cala Resort, helping both guests and golfers move around the complex more safely and efficiently. The works include a new bypass road, two roundabouts and a 50-metre tunnel linking the America and Europa courses, while parking has been expanded from 173 to 333 spaces, with a new lift giving direct access to the two floors of the Golf Clubhouse and the Golf Shop.

The plan is rounded off with new buggy paths on the Asia course, an added improvement that strengthens internal mobility within La Cala Resort, one of the most complete golf resorts in southern Europe.

The new Hole 64: rest stop on the Asia course

Hole 64 introduces a new rest and refreshment area on the Asia course, with a terrace, grab-and-go service and 24-hour vending machines. Designed as a relaxed pause point during the day, it offers golfers and guests a comfortable way to enjoy the surroundings before, during or after their round.

“We make the day flow better”: Sean Corte-Real’s vision

Sean Corte-Real, general manager of La Cala Resort, commented on the opening: “La Cala has always been recognised for the breadth of its golf and resort offering, but our focus is on how that experience is lived by every guest.”

“These improvements are about helping the day flow better: from the moment clients arrive, to how they move between courses, enjoy the Clubhouse areas and spend time with us beyond the golf course,” he added.

“The completion of this latest phase, including the new tunnel, road infrastructure, additional parking spaces and Hole 64, is another important step in our long-term investment programme, and reflects the resort’s commitment to improving facilities while preserving the character and atmosphere that make La Cala so special,” Corte-Real concluded at the event.

La Cala Resort, among the Top 100 Luxe Resorts in Europe

The improvements arrive at a moment of growing international recognition for La Cala Resort, which has recently been ranked 56th in the new Top 100 Luxe Resorts in Europe list compiled by Golf World magazine. The selection highlights golf destinations that combine excellent golf with first-rate accommodation, dining, services and an all-round experience.

In its review, Golf World described the recently renovated hotel as “exceptional” and the spa as “one of the best around”. The recognition, according to the resort team, reflects the impact of sustained investment and the reputation of a destination that goes far beyond the traditional golf break.

With three 18-hole courses, a 9-hole Par 3 Short Course, hotel, spa, restaurants, real estate, holiday rentals and an extensive leisure programme, La Cala Resort is designed for golfers, couples, families, owners and travellers seeking a complete Mediterranean experience.

Spanish Women’s Open from 26 to 29 November

La Cala Resort is also gearing up for one of the most important weeks in its recent history: from 26 to 29 November it will host the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho. The tournament is the season-ending event on the Ladies European Tour and will bring together the top 75 players on the Europa Course at La Cala Resort, where the European women’s professional golf season will draw to a close.

For guests and fans, it will be a rare chance to watch some of the continent’s leading players in action at a resort they themselves can enjoy as visitors.

Corte-Real added: “The Golf World recognition, together with hosting the Ladies European Tour season finale, shows the momentum La Cala is gathering. Our responsibility now is to keep improving, keep investing and make sure every part of the resort experience reflects the standard our guests expect.”
