Tournament at Montecastillo Andalucía Golf Challenge 2026: complete report

The San Miguel XVI Andalucía Golf Challenge Costa del Sol – Destino República Dominicana by Globalia held a magnificent tournament at Montecastillo, a luxury setting that made its debut on the circuit calendar in its sixteenth edition and left a fond memory among all the participants. Barceló Montecastillo, in Jerez de la Frontera, confirmed why it is one of the great golf resorts in southern Spain.

The course was in impeccable condition, which comes as no surprise on a layout used to hosting major events and which has the perfect complement in a fantastic hotel, where guests are made to feel very special. Barceló Montecastillo Golf, with its 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus, offered unbeatable conditions to play this tournament at Montecastillo.

The team, masterfully led by Guillermo Pérez Gutiérrez, made everything run perfectly and ensured players were looked after in every detail.

Scratch and category winners

The standout performance of the day came from the scratch winner, Álvaro Paradinas Gómez, who completed a bogey-free round with five birdies to card 67 strokes, an outstanding result that reflected the high level of play in the tournament at Montecastillo.

Closest-to-the-pin prizes

The tournament at Montecastillo also handed out the closest-to-the-pin prizes on four of its holes:

• Hole 2 (Bridgestone BX Tour balls, Tiger Woods edition): Alejandro Grosso Romero.
• Hole 8 (Casa de Campo, wines by Grupo La Navarra): Juan Antonio Alanís Marcos.
• Hole 11 (Sevirol): Julio Benjumea Ordóñez.
• Hole 14 (San Miguel): Álvaro Paradinas Gómez.

A married couple with a ticket to the Grand Final

As a notable anecdote of the day, the second-category winner, Miguel Ángel Ibáñez Amat, was already qualified for the Final on 19 September after winning the Antequera event on 2 May. For that reason, the right passes to the runner-up, Beatriz Palominos Pascual, who also happens to be his wife.

In this way, the couple face the closing stretch with the hope that one of them —or perhaps both— will win the great golf trip to the Dominican Republic planned for late October, the attractive prize that crowns every edition of the circuit courtesy of Globalia.

Cocktail, rice stew and acknowledgements

Special mention goes to the cocktail served at the hotel for the prize-giving. The selection of tapas and the superb rice stew were impressive and put the perfect finishing touch to a rounded day, in which the winners of the tournament at Montecastillo collected their prizes in an unbeatable atmosphere.
