
Last Saturday 30th, Villa Padierna Golf Club, one of the most important golf resorts in Europe, with three golf courses and a five-star hotel, hosted the second round of the VI edition of the Andalucía Golf Challenge circuit, which is played in the best courses of the Costa del Sol.
As in the previous competition, in Finca Cortesin, about 100 players registered for this open tournament and enjoyed a course in magnificent conditions, with a magnificent day, although it was a bit hot. What can be expected at the end of July.
The amateur players who gathered at Flamingos Golf (the first of the resort’s courses) came from different European countries: Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, British and, of course, Spanish.
This competition was sponsored by iKasa, a real estate developer from Madrid that is developing a beautiful urbanization in Estepona; Fairway + Blue, a golf store located in Puerto Banús; Holiday Golf, the largest distributor of golf products in Spain and Portugal; the Somontano Designation of Origin; Bodegas Domecq, which gave all participants a bottle of 2009 Rueda white wine, Hacienda de Montecorto; and TomTom.
The awards ceremony was held in the beautiful gardens of the clubhouse, after a cocktail, and was presided over by Antonio Sanchez, editor of Andalucia Golf, and Gabriela Johne, of Fairway and Blue.
As regards the sporting results, in the first category, the victory went to Santiago Gutierrez Duque, with 41 points, followed by Ole Kelsen and Juan Carlos Vara de la Fuente, both with 38.
In the second category, Frank Hinrichsen won with 39 points. Second with 37 points was Martin Malone, while third place went to Mark Ward, who also scored 37 points.
The best player of the tournament, scratch prize, offered by iKasa, was Elias Azzam, who with a handicap 3’7 managed to score 34 points.
The closest ball went to Franky Aegten, the longest ladies’ drive to Lulu Pourulis, the longest men’s drive to Gonzalo González Jiménez de la Espada, and the best classified lady was Helle.
The next dates of the Andalucía Golf Challenge are August 19 at San Roque Old Course and September 25 at RCG Guadalmina (South Course). Registrations to participate must be made at each golf course where the tournament will take place.
