Andalusia will host the next edition of the Women’s Spanish Open

Andalusia will host the next edition of the Women’s Spanish Open, which will be played at the Marbella club Aloha Golf from September 22 to 25 and will bring together the elite of European golf.

The Minister of Tourism and Sport, Francisco Javier Fernandez, presented this event in which also involved the Provincial Council, the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.

Fernandez, who took advantage of this event to express his solidarity with the Turkish people, after the attack on the main airport in the city of Istanbul, and to call on the tourism sector to make a unanimous condemnation, said that this event of the European women’s professional circuit will bring together more than a hundred players and considered that it will strengthen the projection of the image of the destination.

In this sense, he valued the national and international media impact of this tournament, which will be held under the name ‘Andalucía Costa del Sol-Open of Spain Women’ and stressed that “it will be an excellent platform for tourism promotion, in addition to helping to position the region as one of the most attractive destinations to host major sporting events”.

In addition, the Minister affirmed that the golf segment is a fundamental tool that “contributes to the fight against seasonality thanks to the excellent weather conditions of the region and the extraordinary complementary offer that accompanies it” and that it is a “quality” product that generates wealth and favors investments and job creation.

Fernandez insisted that golf is vital for the Andalusian tourism industry and recalled that, for this reason, has the support of his department both in the Action Plan 2016, with a score of specific actions, and through sponsorships that seek to generate notoriety of the Andalusia brand from its presence in major sporting events that generate a positive return on the destination.

An example of this is the support of the Regional Ministry of Tourism and Sport for the Spanish Open de España de Golf, the men’s edition of this tournament, held at Valderrama Golf Club, in San Roque (Cádiz), last April, which was broadcast in more than a hundred countries with a great success of audience and public.

Finally, the counselor wanted to highlight the example of collaboration between institutions that involves participating in the Andalusia Costa del Sol-Open of Spain women and noted that it is a joint strategy in which the priority is to maximize results and return on investment.
