Another historic win for Jon Rham in the U.S.

Jon Rahm has achieved his ninth collegiate victory in the United States, a triumph on this occasion with special connotations since it has taken place at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational held at Karsten Golf Course, a championship and scenario well known to the Spanish golfer since he has chained his third consecutive first place, victories in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 editions that no player from Arizona State University -where Jon Rahm plays- has achieved to date, including golfers like Phil Mickelson, Paul Casey or Alejandro Cañizares, who also trained at the time in the ranks of the Sun Devils.

Jon Rahm’s performance was simply spectacular, with rounds of 66, 64 and 68 strokes, with 16 birdies and an eagle, stratospheric records that allowed him to accumulate three and five strokes of advantage, respectively, over the Americans Nick Voke and K. K. Limbhasut, next in the standings.

Jon Rahm’s first collegiate victory in the United States in 2016 -second of the golf season, considering that he also won the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at the end of last October-, the Basque player continues to write a fantastic story on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, where he has accumulated nine first places since he landed at Arizona State in 2012.

This spectacular playing streak consolidates Jon Rahm as number 1 in the World Amateur Ranking.

Manuel Elvira, first Spanish university triumph in the USA in 2016

Previously, 7 days earlier, Manuel Elvira achieved the first Spanish men’s victory of 2016 in the United States University League after finishing first, along with Americans Patrick Flavin and Braden Thornberry, in the FAU Slomin Autism Invite held at the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Florida.

The Spanish golfer, a member of the Blume National Golf School in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 graduating classes and a current member of the University of Central Florida, finished tied for the top of the leaderboard with 205 strokes after rounds of 72, 64 and 69, two final rounds that were decisive in winning the title.
