A Spanish woman dazzles in the U.S. Collegiate League

The streak of the Spanish Fátima Fernández in the United States is simply spectacular, as evidenced by the fact that she has won for the second consecutive week in the American University League, specifically in the Rebel Intercollegiate, a victory that is chained to the one achieved seven days earlier in the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate.

On this last occasion, at the University of Mississippi course where the tournament took place, the Galician golfer of the National Teams and Troy University won thanks to a phenomenal final round of 66 strokes, in which seven birdies beat a bogey.

With that record, Fatima Fernandez won the tournament with some comfort, five strokes ahead of the second classified, the player from Murray St. Moa Folke. Only they played under par.

Last week she already won the Henssler Financial Intercollege played at the Pinetree Country Club, in the state of Georgia. There Fátima Fernández showed again her good moment of play, presenting cards of 73, 75 and 73 strokes for a total of 221, the same as the Americans Lauren Mason and Josefine Nyqvist, all of them taking the top of the ranking.

This is the fourth triumph achieved in 2016 that ratifies a progression already reflected in his victories at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic and the Samford Intercollegiate.

In the first of these tests, Fatima Fernandez submitted cards of 69, 72 and 69 strokes for a total of 210, identical to the record computed by Emily McLennan. In the second round, she won with rounds of 68, 68 and 72.

Fatima Fernandez’s track record now includes five victories in the United States – she also came first in the 2015 John Kirk Panther Intercolleage – a second place in the 2014 Landes Grand Prix, a bronze medal in the 2015 European Absolute Team Championships and a third place in The Spirit International 2015.

Fatima Fernandez is provisionally ranked 35th in the World Amateur Ranking, the fourth best positioned Spaniard at the moment after Maria Parra (number 3), Luna Sobron (number 7) and Ana Pelaez (number 31).
