The Aramco Team Series has announced a new initiative to boost women’s golf in Spain just before the start of this weekend’s tournament in Sotogrande.
For every birdie and eagle achieved in the three days of team competition being held this week at Club La Reserva, $10 and $100 respectively will be donated to the Andalusian Golf Federation.
The donation will be used to support young women to promote female talent through different initiatives that contribute to inspire female participation in Andalusia.
The Aramco Team Series is committed to making golf more accessible by providing impactful golf opportunities. And, in the long term, also in those countries visited by the Ladies European Tour. At the inaugural event in London, Ladies European Tour (LET) professionals organized workshops to inspire young women in partnership with the charity, The Girl’s Network, as part of the Ladies First Club of Saudi Golf.
Pablo Mansilla, president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, said: “The support of the Aramco Team Series really helps to boost women’s golf in Andalusia. We are fortunate to be known for our golf in this part of Spain and we have a solid base. Twenty-seven percent of Andalusian federated golfers are women, a very high figure compared to other sports, but we can always do more. We must strive to increase the female quota and these funds, together with the tournament itself, are a great boost.”
“We want to help make golf more accessible, regardless of anyone’s background, age or financial capabilities. The power of golf and the sport goes beyond the course, it gives you so many life lessons and connects you with so many wonderful people from around the world, as we are experiencing again this week with our friends in Saudi Arabia. It really is a sport for anyone, and we thank the Aramco Team Series for the energy they are bringing to golf.”
The announcement has had the support and participation of Laura Gomez, a Ladies European Tour player and resident of Marbella, who grew up and progressed in the ranks of the Andalusian Golf Federation. Gomez, who knows the La Reserva Club course very well, is looking forward to a special week playing in front of her home crowd.
“This week is perfect. The course, the team format, the prizes and playing in Andalucia. But to now see that every birdie and every eagle will help women’s golf in the area grow even more makes it very special and adds another incentive for the Spanish players. It’s a very generous gesture.
The Aramco Team Series-Sotogrande starts this Thursday at La Reserva Club, Sotogrande, and ends on Saturday.
Free tickets are still available at www.aramcoteamseries.com/sotogrande. The tournament has COVID-19 protocols and complies with health authority guidelines.

Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande
The Aramco Team Series is a unique and historic sporting event and epitomizes Saudi Arabia’s status as one of the most committed investors in women’s golf today. This tournament, which is part of the Ladies European Tour (LET) will take place in Spain and is the second of four $1 million LET events supported by Aramco this year, to be followed by New York and King Abdullah Economic City (near Jeddah).
Aramco’s investment as title sponsor, along with Saudi Golf, makes Saudi Arabia one of the largest sponsors of the women’s game in Europe today. The four Aramco Team Series events are a major step forward for both Saudi and women’s sport, and follow the successful Aramco Saudi Ladies International organized by the Public Investment Fund and Saudi Ladies Team International, which took place at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in November 2020.
The four tournaments form a major fixture on the LET’s record-breaking calendar, with teams of four players competing over 54 holes. Unlike any other event in world golf, team captains will recruit a fellow Tour professional through a draft system, similar to that of the NFL and NBA. Another Tour professional will be selected at random, while all teams will exclusively include an amateur player.
This is the only event in world golf where an amateur contributes to the final result in the main competition. The prize money for the winning team is divided among the three professional members.
