Ballesteros Foundation receives $100,000 from the EurAsia Cup

Miguel Ángel Jiménez and Thongchai Jaidee, captains of the European and Asian teams that faced each other in the inaugural edition of the EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM, held last March at the Glenmarie Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur, have presented the Seve Ballesteros Foundation, beneficiary of the tournament, with a financial award.

Seve’s daughter, Carmen Ballesteros, on behalf of the FSB and her brothers Javier and Miguel, received from the hands of both captains a cheque for €100,000 during the BMW PGA Championship, the tournament held in Wentworth (England), home of the European Tour: “Many thanks to all those involved in the EurAsia Cup, led by Miguel Angel and Tongchai, for making possible the delivery of such an important amount for the Foundation. I think the draw in the first edition was the best result to promote golf, and my father would have loved to see it. My brothers and I would love for this competition to be played one day in Pedreña”.

The total amount of the EurAsia Cup contribution will go to the CNIO (Spanish National Cancer Research Center), and specifically to the Seve Ballesteros Foundation Brain Tumor Group Laboratory headed by researcher Massimo Squatrito, with the aim of discovering the genetic defects responsible for the aggressiveness of this type of tumors and identifying those alterations related to DNA damage, a type of response that protects the integrity of the genetic material.

Seve set up his Foundation in 2009 with the aim of promoting research and projects of scientific excellence that would contribute to improving the quality of life and survival of people affected by brain tumors. His dream was also to help young people by offering them the opportunity to develop their sporting careers in golf, as well as to bring this sport closer to children by using it as an instrument to promote the values it entails.
