Carlota Ciganda to play the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España

Carlota Ciganda, Fátima Fernández Cano, Luna Sobrón and Beatriz Recari make up a spectacular ladies’ poker within the line-up that will compete in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, the final tournament of the Race to Costa del Sol to be played from November 25 to 28 at Los Naranjos Golf Club to culminate the Ladies European Tour season. The four Spanish golfers head the national cast of this great tournament for whose title will compete a total of 72 players, the 64 best players of the ranking and eight invited by the organization.

Carlota Ciganda, who despite her youth has already completed a decade in the professional field, arrives at the Marbella course after having won her third Solheim Cup (of the five she has played) defending the colors of the European team and looking forward to adding another Ladies European Tour title to the four she already holds. It so happens that, apart from Azahara Muñoz, double champion of the tournament, Carlota Ciganda is the Spaniard with the best record in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, as she has played it seven times and in all of them she has finished among the top ten. In 2014, at Golf Costa Adeje, and in 2017, at Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, she finished second, so she arrives at Los Naranjos Golf Club, a wonderful ambassador of the Andalusian Costa del Sol, with the intention of climbing one more step on the podium.

“I have been fortunate enough to be Spanish champion in all categories and achieving the title at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España would be a wonderful culmination. I have very good memories of the tournaments I have played on the Costa del Sol and Andalucía, and in fact in 2017 I was runner-up in the Open at Guadalmina, so I am looking forward to facing my teammates at Los Naranjos Golf Club,” said Carlota Ciganda.

The award-winning golfer from Pamplona is joined by another player who has made history for Spanish women’s golf, Fátima Fernández Cano, the first golfer from our country to achieve the LPGA Tour card through its promotional circuit, the Symetra Tour. The Galician has had an impeccable season, finishing second in the ranking of this circuit and signing ten top 10 and three runner-up finishes in twenty tournaments played.

These results become relevant if we take into account that last year she finished second in the Symetra Tour, but the shortened calendar due to the covid pandemic caused her to obtain lower playing rights and that is why she preferred to consolidate her options in this access circuit. Her perseverance has gone hand in hand with her golfing quality and next year she will be able to measure herself against the members of the LPGA Tour, but first she will compete against the best of the Ladies European Tour in a stellar tournament, the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España.

Luna Sobrón is another Spaniard who continues to make her way to the other side of the Atlantic after having a remarkable success in the Santander Golf Tour as well as in the LET Access Series and the Ladies European Tour. In fact, the Balearic has done very well the settlement of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España on the Costa del Golf, since in the last four editions, all of them held in the area, has not left the top 20 and has even signed two results in the top ten.

Completing this magnificent quartet is another Spanish golf record holder, Beatriz Recari, who has three victories on the LPGA Tour, the record for Spanish players, and another triumph on the Ladies European Tour, as well as having represented Europe in the spectacular Solheim Cup played at the Colorado Golf Club and having won the International Crown defending the Spanish flag with Carlota Ciganda, Azahara Muñoz and Belén Mozo in 2014. Recari returns to the forefront of golf and can not do it in a better scenario, in a great final of the Ladies European Tour endowed with an exceptional prize purse, 600,000 €.

The setting, Los Naranjos Golf Club, a design by the famous Robert Trent Jones Sr. that will act as a fair and careful judge for the 72 participants and that will serve as a wonderful attraction for the spectators who attend on site or enjoy the tournament through the television signal distributed to more than 140 countries.

The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2021 will be held at Los Naranjos Golf Club from November 25 to 28 and is part of the program of the Solheim Cup 2023, an event declared an Event of Exceptional Public Interest (AEIP) and which provides important tax advantages to the participating companies. The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, the last event of the Ladies European Tour calendar, has the main sponsorship of Andalucía, Costa del Sol and Acosol, who together with the Marbella Town Hall, Benahavís Town Hall and Reale Seguros, as well as the rest of the collaborators (Eversheds Sutherland, Kyocera, Mahou, PING, Audi Safamotor and Solán de Cabras) and organizing entities (Deporte & Business, Ladies European Tour, Real Federación Española de Golf and Real Federación Andaluza de Golf) make this event possible.
