Carlota’s second tournament win and eighth LET title
Carlota Ciganda shone again in Malaga to become champion of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2024 presented by Oysho. With this victory, the Navarre golfer adds her second title in the tournament after her triumph in 2021 and reaches the eighth title of her career in the Ladies European Tour (LET).
A thrilling denouement at Real Guadalhorce Club de Golf
With a final score of -18, Carlota Ciganda showed her best version to win in an intense duel against the Belgian Manon De Roey (-17) and the Indian Pranavi Urs (-14).
Although she started with a four-stroke lead over De Roey, the victory was not easy. The Navarrese had a difficult start with bogeys on holes 1 and 3, which allowed her rival to tie for the lead thanks to birdies on holes 3 and 4. However, Ciganda kept her cool and got key birdies on holes 5 and 7 to finish the first round with a one-stroke lead.
The second round, a battle of nerves
The excitement increased in the last holes of the tournament. Carlota, who struggled with the drive all week, made masterful recoveries with the irons. On the 10th hole, she saved par after sending the ball into the water on her second shot. De Roey did not slow down and tied again on the par 5 12th hole.
But the Navarrese knew how to respond with cold blood, making a key birdie on the 14th hole that gave her back the lead. The decisive moment came on the par 3 17th, where Carlota holed a four-meter putt for birdie, unleashing a standing ovation from the audience. A bogey on the 18th did not tarnish her victory.
