The tenth edition of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters will go down in history as one of the most exciting. Frenchman Julien Guerrier won the title after a 9-hole playoff against Jorge Campillo, becoming the first golfer from his country to win this prestigious tournament.
An epic duel: Guerrier vs. Campillo
The Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, in its second year as host of the DP World Tour, offered an impeccable setting for a heart-stopping outcome. After completing the regulation 72 holes with a tie of -21 strokes, Guerrier and Campillo starred in a historic playoff.
Tension mounted, and after nine playoff holes, Guerrier managed to unleash the emotion with his victory, accompanied by tears and the support of his caddie Chris Lilley, who was also present at Raphael Jacquelin‘s victory at the 2013 Open de España.
A playoff for the history of the DP World Tour
This 9-hole playoff equals the mark for the longest in DP World Tour history, along with:
- 1989 Dutch Open – Victory of José María Olazábal.
- Open de España 2013 – Triumph of Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin.
Guerrier: “I have worked very hard to achieve this”.
At the age of 39, Julien Guerrier celebrates his first DP World Tour title after playing 230 tournaments. In addition to entering the history of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucia Masters, his victory allows him to:

- Become the first Frenchman to win this tournament.
- Add the 50th French victory in the history of the DP World Tour.
“The recent victories of my compatriots Ravetto and Lacroix inspired me. I thought of them and said to myself: I can do it too,” said the Frenchman after his victory.
Campillo: “It’s a shame to lose a tournament in your country”.
Spaniard Jorge Campillo came close to victory on several occasions during the playoff, but ended up conceding on the ninth playoff hole.
“It makes me angry that I missed the short putt to win, but that’s golf,” he commented. “I played better than him on almost every hole except the first and last. I’ll have more chances.”
Jon Rahm and the other protagonists of the tournament
The tournament counted with the participation of great figures of world golf, among them Jon Rahm, who finished sixth with -17.
“I have not been comfortable this week, quite far from my best golf. I’m a little annoyed to be on top but not winning, it is what it is,” said Rahm.
Other notable players:
- Daniel Brown (-19) – Third place.
- Rasmus Højgaard and Jordan Smith (-18) – Quarters.
