Ciganda adds her second LPGA Tour win in one month

Carlota Ciganda is on a roll and has just achieved her second victory in a month on the American Tour, the LPGA Tour. If the first one was in Korea, this time the stage has been Mexico on the occasion of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, in honor of the best Mexican golfer of all time.

The player from Navarre was two strokes ahead of the quartet formed by Austin Ernst, Angela Stanford, Karine Icher and Jodi Eward Shaddof after a final round of 68 strokes (-4), which left her with an overall score of -13. In the three previous rounds she had recorded 67, 72 and 68 strokes. Her triumph was awarded with 200,000 dollars out of the million dollars the tournament distributed in prizes.

Ciganda won an exciting duel with the American Austin Ernst, who started the day with a one-stroke lead over the Spaniard. But two birdies and an eagle in the first six holes put Ciganda two ahead, who was able to maintain the advantage in the particular match play with Ernst in the following holes.

England’s Shaddoff, with 67, and American Alex, with 66, had carried out the most important attacks of the day, but both had reached the clubhouse with an overall score of -11. Carlota arrived at the 18th tee with the win in her pocket after making birdie on the 17th.

With this victory, Ciganda now becomes the second Spanish player with the most victories on the LPGA Tour, surpassed only by Beatriz Recari, who finished 22nd at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, and is full of confidence going into the Tour Championship, the LPGA Tour final, which takes place this week in Florida.

The player from Navarre is ranked eleventh in the American Tour ranking  and twenty-third in the world ranking.
