Costa Ballena, Olazábal’s Cadiz seal of approval

Very few people know Lola Ruiz Calderón by her name in the world of golf, perhaps the very, very close ones; because she prefers to use her “artistic name,” as she defines it with irony, which is much more than a nickname: Chunga.

And by Chunga, her family name, she has always been known to her friends and to those of us who relate to her professionally.

After spending several years of his last stage managing the Isla de Valdecañas golf course in Cáceres, he has returned to his homeland, Andalusia, to take charge of Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club, near Rota.

After her first months in the field on the Cadiz coast, she is very satisfied with the experience: “They have been,” she says, “more or less as I expected, with a lot of work, especially in the summer, when we had a weak July and a spectacular August.

-What are your prospects for the new season that started a few weeks ago?

-Generally good. Our tour operation is working well for us and our expectations are more or less the same as last year, which was already good. We are, of course, trying to open new markets.

-What are the benefits of this field for you?

-Many. I have seen this resort grow and develop, and I have always felt very close to it. It is a course with a fantastic geographical location, with the sea almost touching some of its holes, and in a province privileged by its nature and climate.

There are 27 holes of a beautiful course designed by José María Olazábal that leave no one indifferent. It is at the same time a commercial, fun, pleasant and challenging course. We also have the most impressive practice area I have ever seen in Spain and, for sure, one of the best in Europe, with par three holes, putting green, pitching green, etc.

We have a very complete product in an area with great lodging facilities and a very attractive tourist environment.
