Costa del Sol supports one more year of the AECC Benalmádena-Torremolinos Golf Tournament

On July 1 will take place a new edition, the fifth, of the golf tournament of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) Benalmádena-Torremolinos in the golf course of Torrequebrada. It is a charity event, which as Margarita del Cid, acting CEO of Costa del Sol Tourism, pointed out, revolves around one of the most important attractions of the tourist offer of the Costa del Sol “that is giving us so much joy and that brings so much to the destination. Now at the gates of what will be an exceptional event, the celebration on the Costa del Sol of the Solheim 2023, next September at Finca Cortesin.

In this regard, the acting CEO of Costa del Sol Tourism has highlighted the strategic value of the golf activity for the province of Malaga and the leading position of the so-called Costa del Golf in this segment at international level, “with more than 70 golf courses we bring together 67% of the supply of courses in Andalusia and that this sector generates about 1,400 million euros of economic impact, being the area of continental Europe with the highest density of courses.

Del Cid has also highlighted both the seasonal power of this type of golf activity, as well as the level of spending by tourists, higher than the average visitor and the contribution to employment, with 17,700 jobs on the Costa del Sol. Also the sustainability of the golf courses, because as he has assured “we can also boast of more than 500 holes irrigated with recycled water”.

Likewise, the Costa del Sol’s leadership is supported by the rating the destination receives from golfers: 9.24 out of ten. A figure whose guarantors are, as Del Cid pointed out, “safety, human treatment and value for money. 98.7% recommend the Costa del Golf destination”.

In her speech, the acting CEO of the entity highlighted the charitable nature of the golf tournament, organized to, as she said, help those who need it most in the fight against cancer. A tournament that also recognizes Carlos Gil’s contribution to the promotion of the destination. In this sense, Margarita del Cid has valued the work of professionals and workers in the golf segment in the Costa del Sol, and its contribution to the prestige of the Costa del Golf brand: “if we have become a leading destination in Europe in the golf segment is thanks to the workers and professionals in the sector and the work well done on your part, you are the real responsible for this fact”. For this reason, he urged them to continue to maintain their commitment and dedication, to continue working as they have done up to now, “with the responsibility of consolidating the well-deserved reputation we enjoy”.
