In a year of special relevance for the golf segment in the province of Malaga, because Costa del Sol will host in September the most important women’s golf tournament, the Solheim Cup, Turismo Costa del Sol and Turismo Andaluz have organized three famtrips aimed at travel agents and international tour operators specialized in golf.
These familiarization trips were a prelude to the European convention of the international association of golf operators IAGTO, which brought together more than 500 European and Mediterranean golf tourism professionals in Marbella.
In the itineraries of the three famtrips, tourism professionals have had the opportunity to see first hand the so-called Costa del Golf, as the province of Malaga has more than 70 golf courses, as well as the complementary tourism offer.
In this way, the participants in these famtrips have visited the facilities and have been able to practice their swing at the golf courses of La Cala Golf Resort, Santa María, El Chaparral, Valle Romano, Los Olivos, Doña Julia, Añoreta and Baviera.
In addition, they have enjoyed the high level of service offered by Costa del Sol accommodations and local cuisine, one of the best business cards of the destination. They have also had the opportunity to learn about the cultural legacy and heritage of Mijas, Estepona and the capital, Malaga.
These famtrips are part of the strategy of Costa del Sol Tourism to facilitate marketing and highlight the attributes of a destination that offers an enviable climate throughout the year for the practice of golf, with a high level of services and infrastructure, in terms of facilities and fields, as well as accommodation and complementary offer. In fact, golf is a strategic segment for tourism in the province of Malaga. On the Costa del Sol, the average expenditure of the golf tourist trip exceeds 1,800 euros, with an average daily expenditure of around 150 euros and a stay of 12.31 days. Consequently, the impact generated by golf in this destination amounts to 1,410 million euros in direct and indirect production, in addition to generating about 17,700 jobs.
In Andalusia as a whole, it is an activity that annually attracts about 600,000 travelers, attracted by the largest range of golf courses in continental Europe, with more than a hundred facilities and a wide range of complementary proposals.
