The president of the Diputación de Málaga and Turismo Costa del Sol, Francisco Salado, has criticized the lack of commitment of the central government with the Solheim Cup, the considered Ryder Cup of women’s golf to be held next week in Casares, compared to the Ryder Cup of Catalonia in 2031. In his view, this is a clear example of the lack of support from the central government to women’s sport. Salado has intervened today in a forum of El Confidencial on the role of new technologies in the tourism sector.
Salado has explained that the Government has not devoted a single euro to the Solheim Cup, to be held from 22 to 24 September at the Finca Cortesin (Casares) and that reaches a global audience of hundreds of millions of viewers. However, the central government has committed at least 50 million euros for the Ryder Cup in Catalonia in 2031.
“It is clear: 0 euros for women’s golf in Andalusia compared to 50 million for men’s golf in Catalonia. But then they boast of feminism and that is mere posturing. It is not fair and makes no sense, and from here I demand an explanation to the Government, because the other administrations, the Junta de Andalucía, the Diputación and the municipalities have been contributing to this international event for five years. They have had plenty of time,” he added.
The president of the Provincial Council of Malaga and Costa del Sol Tourism has pointed out that this is another example of the neglect of the Government with the Costa del Sol, as in recent years it misses a more active role, more committed and more investment of the central government with tourism.
