The American Bryson DeChambeau (-6) has obtained a brilliant victory at the US Open in which he has been the only golfer under par at the demanding Winged Foot course. The Californian has won his first major without rounds under par, something that has been impossible for the rest of the competitors, including Rafael Cabrera and Jon Rahm (+10), who lost ground after two good first rounds.
The islander was the one who started with the best prospects this Sunday, but a start to forget -three bogeys and a double bogey for the first four holes- burst any possibility of approaching the leader on the 1st tee, Matthew Wolf. In card collection, he signed a 78 that made him fall to twenty-third place.
Jon Rahm finished in the same position, although his inertia has been the opposite this Sunday. The Basque, who came from a complicated third round (76), said goodbye with a 73 that hides a certain cruelty in the form of a double bogey at the 18th. A week of much fighting without hardly any fruit for the player from Barrika.
The battle for the victory was fought in the star match between Matthew Wolf and Bryson DeChambeau. The former started in the best situation thanks to his extraordinary third day (65), but his +4 score for the first nine holes made it clear that this very young talent still has to wait to win a major.
DeChambeau, unlike his starting partner, saw how par for par he was recovering ground. An eagle on the 9th and a birdie on the 11th ended up turning the leaderboard around. Only ‘The Scientist’ has finished the week under par, and he has done it with -6, which speaks of a more than fair winner.

Cabrera and Rahm were exciting in the first two days of the event
The second day of this US Open ended with Rafael Cabrera in third place. The Canary Islander, by then, was at -2 after rounds of 68 and 70 strokes, results that allowed him to move in the noblest area while some illustrious names were saying goodbye to the tournament.
Jon Rahm also presented his credentials for the weekend with rounds of 69 and 72, remarkable in such a rigorous course.
The weekend was missed by the other three Spanish players immersed in this US Open, whose cut, at +6, wreaked havoc among many illustrious names. Adrian Otaegui (+10) was the closest to the target, but after a more than acceptable first round (+1) he missed any option in the second (+9).
In a similar situation was Sergio Garcia (+15), who also did not extend his stay at Winged Foot, especially due to an unlucky second round (+11). The second round, with a partial +8 in seven holes, ended up burying any possibility of the Spaniard.
The young amateur Eduard Rousaud (+21), who has a great eagle and a series of good experiences in store for him, was not seen on Saturday either. Many important names also missed the cut. Take note: Martin Kaymer (+7), Gary Woodland (+8), Justin Rose (+10), Danny Willet (+10), Henrik Stenson (+11), Tiger Woods (+11), Phil Mickelson (+13) or Jordan Spieth (+14).
