Denmark’s Olesen wins first Tour title in Sicily

Denmark’s Thorjborn Olesen achieved his first victory on the European Tour, winning the Sicilian Open, in which Spain’s Jose Manuel Lara finished in fifth place. Oelsen, 22, was able to withstand the pressure at Verdura Golf of Englishman Chris Wood and ended his success with a total of 273 strokes (-15) after making 69 on the last day. Wood climbed in the standings in a spectacular way with a card with 64 impacts and even dreamed of victory, but finally fell to one behind the Nordic. José Manuel Lara finished fifth and could even have finished higher had it not been for the three mistakes he made in the second half of the round that left him with a 68 for a total of 277. Another Spaniard, Álvaro Velasco, also finished in the top 10 in ninth with 279, equal with the Argentinean Tano Goya.
