One of Florida’s most famous golf resorts, the Doral Hotel and Country Club, nestled just outside Miami, has become part of billionaire Donald Trump’s collection of hotels and golf resorts. The half-century-old resort, with a 700-room hotel, occupies nearly 800 acres, includes four championship golf courses and has been in receivership for a year. The Blue Monster has hosted a PGA Tour tournament every year since its opening, including the Doral Open from 1962 to 2006. The Trump Organization plans to make a major investment to renovate the hotel facilities and golf courses. “The combination of the property’s incredible location in the heart of Miami and our very significant investment in upgrading the resort will allow us to return Doral to its former glory, if not surpass it,” said Donald Trump. “It would be impossible for a developer today to replicate a property of this size in Miami,” the mogul added. Trump International, the championship links near Aberdeen in Scotland, will open this summer.
