Enrique Marín, the most inspired Spanish representative at the Reid Trophy

Enrique Marín, eleventh, has been the most inspired Spanish representative in the Reid Trophy, England U-14 International Championship, which has concluded at Porters Park Golf Club, located near London, with the victory of local golfer Bradley Moore.

Enrique Marín went from strength to strength, as evidenced by his rounds of 72, 75 and 78 strokes. Xabier Gorospe and Víctor García, both with 229 strokes to their credit, four more than Enrique Marín, also qualified among the top 35, which is commendable in view of the fact that the participation was well over a hundred.

At the beginning of the third day, Enrique Marín and Andrés Tamayo were the best placed Spaniards. The former started his last 18 holes in tenth place, and the latter in thirteenth. Ten and eleven strokes separated both golfers from the then provisional leader, Bradley Moore. Seen in this light, the company of both was really complicated.

Enrique Marín himself signed the best Spanish debut in the tournament with a round of 72 strokes (+2) in a first day in which only three golfers played under par. Klaus Ganter and Xabier Gorospe (75, +5) also completed a promising start.

Spanish golf has never won this International Championship of England U-14, although it should be noted that only in five editions has there been such a possibility. In previous editions the results were positive for the Spanish representatives, who achieved two third places thanks to Javier Sainz from Biscay (2007) and Casto Gómez from Málaga (2008) in their first two participations, and an outstanding second place in 2009 thanks to Mario Galiano. Last year, Manuel Elvira, seventh, was the best Spaniard.
