Fernando Goizueta Gambete has been named Honorary Member of the Real Club Guadalmina and recently proceeded to the delivery of a plaque in commemoration of the appointment in the facilities of the well-known Marbella club. In the company of his family and friends, members of the RCG Guadalmina, Fernando Goizueta received the plaque from the president of the club, Juan Ramón Martínez Landazábal. Likewise, the board where the names of former honorary members Sidney Mathews and Azahara Muñoz are located was labeled.
The honoree is the son of the founder of the RCG Guadalmina, Norberto Goizueta, an agronomist engineer from Navarre who was ahead of his time when he acquired a large estate on the Marbella coast and decided to build a golf course on it. It would be the first course in Marbella and the second on the Costa del Sol, where there was only the then called Club de Campo de Málaga, now Parador de Málaga Golf.
Fernando Goizueta, who received the Gold Medal of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation seven years ago for his work in favor of golf, presided over the RCG Guadalmina from 1979 to 1989.
Fernando, the Goizueta family and the Marquis of Nájera were the driving forces behind what is now known as the Costa del Golf.
