Fihn wins Gecko Pro Tour event at Torrequebrada with 65 strokes

Felix Fihn has broken a spear in The Gecko Pro Tour and has won the fourth round held at the Torrequebrada and Parador courses. The Swedish golfer has become the first non-Spanish player to win in this fourth edition of the circuit. Fihn won with an extraordinary final round of 65 strokes at Torrequebrada.

The Nordic golfer has been the best in a day in which the wind went away and gave way to a festival of birdies. It is not easy to change the mentality of a player when overnight the conditions change in such a brutal way. Yesterday only two golfers managed to beat the course, while today only six played above par. Conclusion: you had to be very accurate to hurt the course and stand out.

Fihn won with a final score of 204 strokes, winning with authority, three strokes ahead of Carlos Rodiles, winner of the second round of the Gecko, and the Irishman Simon Ward, leader after the first day. Fihn won his victory in the first fourteen holes, with seven birdies and no bogey. A spectacular performance that left the rest of the rivals with no response.

The winner could not hide his excitement after the triumph. “I am very happy. I have no words to express what I feel,” he said as he collected the championship trophy. Fihn is a regular in the Nordic League, the Swedish circuit in which he participates every year, although he had failed to win in the last three seasons.

Once this bad streak is broken, Fihn assures that he is going to play more Gecko tournaments. “It’s been a very difficult year for me and today, when I went out on the course, I had set my mind to win, no matter what. Also, the wind stresses me out and today’s conditions were good for me. Luckily, I was able to do it,” he said.

In fourth position finished the Norwegian Eirik Tage Johansen (-8), while Jordi García del Moral closed the top 5 with a score of -6. The next round of the Gecko will take place from 9 to 11 December at Santa Clara Golf Marbella and Marbella Golf Country Club.
