Five Spaniards will play in the British Open

Five Spaniards will fight from Thursday at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club to try to achieve glory and register their name for the first time in a major, the greatest of the greats, the British Open. Sergio Garcia, Pablo Larrazabal, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño and Rafael Cabrero-Bello make up the Spanish squad in this tournament in which the American Phil Mickelson will defend the title won twelve months ago at Muirfield.

The Golden Lefty will begin his defense of the British Open in the company of 2012 champion Ernie Els and current Augusta Masters titleholder Bubba Watson at 2:05 p.m. on the course located at Hoylake.

Two matches behind, Justin Rose, who has just moved up to third in the world ranking thanks to his victory at the Scottish Open, will share a match with world number one Adam Scott and former PGA champion Jason Dufner.

The resurgent Tiger Woods, who claimed his third claret jug the last time the event was played at Hoylake in 2006, will tee off in search of his 15th major at 09:04 with Henrik Stenson and Angel Cabrera.

Double champion Padraig Harrington will tee off in the next match with Charl Schwartzel, winner of the green jacket in 2011, and Korean star KJ Choi. The next will feature Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama.

Reigning U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer will tee off in search of the second major of the year at 13:38 along with Australia’s Jason Day and 2007 Augusta champion Zach Johnson.

Of the five Spaniards who will tee off in the 143rd edition of the oldest of the four majors, Sergio will be the earliest riser. He will tee off at 08:37 with Luke Donald and Rickie Fowler.

Larrazábal will play at 12:10 with Scott Stallings and Bryden MacPherson. Jiménez will play his sporting turn at 13:27 with Bill Haas and Thongchai Jaidee. Fernandez-Castaño will start playing at 14:16 with Russell Henley and Billy Horschel, and Cabrera-Bello at 15:11 with Mark Wiebe and Paul Dunne.
