Four Spaniards will be part of the European team at the PING Junior Solheim Cup

Captain Gwladys Nocera has announced the 12 players who will represent Europe at the PING Junior Solheim Cup 2023, which will take place at the Old Course in La Zagaleta, Benahavís, from September 18-19.

Following the conclusion of the R&A Girls’ Amateur Championship, the final qualifying event for the Ping Junior Solheim Cup, the six top-ranked players were confirmed for the team.

Spain’s Rocio Tejedo leads the standings with 287.50 points and will play her first PING Junior Solheim Cup.

“It’s a dream come true and has been my main goal this season,” said Tejedo.

“It will also be great to experience the full week of the Solheim Cup and meet new players on the U.S. team. Overall, it will be an exciting experience and we will do our best to win.”

The Swedish duo, Nora Sundberg and Meja Örtengren, finished second and third in the standings with 282.50 and 195.00 points respectively, and will each play the competition for a second time after being part of the winning European team in Ohio in 2021.

Germany’s Helen Briem will also take part for the second consecutive time, after finishing the qualifying round in style by winning the R&A Girls’ Amateur Championship at the weekend.

Briem explained, “Playing in the PJSC is a unique experience. In 2021, I was quite young and everything was new, huge and overwhelming. It was unbelievable. I’m so happy to be back on the team with more experience this year. It’s going to be another spectacular week.”

The last two classified by ranking were the Spanish Andrea Revuelta and the Belgian Savannah De Bock, who were part of the winning team of the last edition.

Nocera, along with vice-captain Nora Angehrn, selected six other players in which the criteria used were the PING Junior Solheim Cup rankings along with the results of all amateur events, the European Women’s Amateur Golf Ranking and input from European national team coaches.

Spain will have a total of four players on the team with Cloe Amión and Anna Cañadó selected by the captain.

Italy’s Francesca Fiorellini and Czech Denisa Vodickova will participate for the second time in the tournament, and will be joined by Switzerland’s Yana Beeli and Sweden’s Josefin Widal.

A total of seven players from the winning team in 2021, where Europe triumphed 13-11, return for the PING Junior Solheim 2023.

This will be the 12th edition of the PING Junior Solheim Cup, which has grown from strength to strength since it began in 2002, and the first time it will be played in Spain.

With the support of PING and the Solheim family, the competition has made a name for itself by unveiling the best junior players, who will go on to become world-class players.

Nocera commented, “Congratulations to all the players who are part of the PJSC 2023 European team. It is an honor to lead such an experienced, strong and diverse team.”

“Some players won in 2021, which is invaluable experience, and the team will be represented by six nations, which shows how strong European golf is becoming. I can’t wait to meet all of you and get ready to fight for a second consecutive victory. Come on Europe, let’s go!
