Gabriel Cañizares won the grand finale of the Gecko Pro Tour held at La Reserva de Sotogrande. The Marbella-based player thus took the last victory of the season, although the overall victory went to Jordi García del Moral from Castellón, who usually trains with Sergio García at the Club del Mediterráneo, and who has been the most regular during the seventeen events that make up the European winter circuit.
Cañizares won the Gecko Masters, a tournament with 20,000 euros in prize money, with a total score of 139 strokes, one ahead of Marcos Pastor from Córdoba, winner of the penultimate event in Añoreta, and two ahead of Carlos Rodiles, last year’s winner of the order of merit.
Cañizares’ victory was as spectacular as it was exciting. The eldest son of the legendary José María Cañizares needed a birdie on the 18th hole to win and he did it.
Jordi García del Moral is a prestigious winner for the Gecko and a regular on the European Tour and the Challenge Tour, a player of great talent and quality, although he has been punished by injuries.
He trains under the orders of Víctor García, Sergio’s father, and aims to return again to the European Tour.
