García and Quirós get off to a good start at the Dubai World Cup

Sergio Garcia, after his two consecutive victories in Spain, is ready to prove that he is a new man and that his golf is once again shining as it once did in the international concert. The player from Castellón has completed the first round of the Jumeirah Golf Estates with 67 strokes, five under par, three more than the Swede Peter Hanson who has emerged as the first leader of the grand finale of the European Tour, in the Dubai World Championship. The player from Borriol opts for his third title of the season in the Arab Emirates after winning last October in Castellón, the Castelló Masters, and in Valderrama, the Andalucía Masters. Sergio, seventh in the European ranking and seventeenth in the world ranking, is the best placed Spaniard after the first day of the six Spaniards in competition. Alvaro Quiros managed to place seventh (68 strokes) among the sixty golfers who have started the tournament and who are the best of the year. The second place of the tournament after the first round is occupied by the Scotsman Paul Lawrie, with 65 strokes, one less than the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, the only one with any chance of unseating the Englishman Luke Donald from the number one of the European Tour, who has sealed a first card of 71 strokes.
