Álvaro Quirós takes the lead in Dubai

Spain is giving something to talk about in the United Arab Emirates. If yesterday it was Sergio Garcia who was placed three strokes behind the leader, the Swede Peter Hanson, today, second day of the Dubai World Championship, it was Alvaro Quiros who has given the bell presenting the best card of the day at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai with 64 strokes and putting himself leader of the grand finale of the European Tour, with five strokes ahead of his pursuers. The player from Cadiz has signed six birdies and on the last hole he has holed an eagle, just on the same hole where he needed six strokes yesterday. Things did not go so well for Sergio, who dropped to twelfth place, eight strokes behind the leader. On the other hand, Pablo Larrazábal is in seventh place, seven strokes behind Quirós, followed by a trio formed by Englishman Robert Rock, Northern Ireland’s Rory Mcilroy, contender for the throne of the 2011 European Tour with the opposition of Luke Donald, and Sweden’s Peter Hanson, but already five strokes behind the Spanish player. Donald is not willing to let himself be knocked off the top of the European Tour earnings list and today has climbed sixteen places in the overall ranking, now standing in twelfth place, tied with Sergio, Johan Edfors and Charl Schwartzel.
