Charity tournaments are the order of the day in the world of golf, which turns to the most varied charitable causes. Although most of the time players sign up for a competition knowing the destination of their contributions, sometimes solidarity arises spontaneously and unexpectedly. This is what happened, for example, at the Marbella Amateur Open, an amateur tournament. organized by Grupo Alfil and held over four days as a professional competition.
One of the winners, the German Heinz Happel, instead of keeping the prize, an electric golf cart, wanted it to be auctioned among the attendees and that the money obtained would go to a charitable organization that would allocate the funds to needy children. In the end, the prize was won by a participant from Madrid who offered 550 euros for the cart, and the money was subsequently given to the parish priest of the Church of the Incarnation in Marbella to be donated to Caritas.
This was the seventh edition of the tournament and for this occasion we had a course that had not yet hosted this tournament. It was Valle Romano Golf, a young and prestigious course that stands out for its high level of maintenance and greens at the level of the best courses. It was also played in three other magnificent courses already known by players from previous editions: Flamingos Golf, within the Villa Padierna complex and venue of several professional tournaments; Santa Clara, a golf course of 18 holes par 71, and La Quinta, a famous club that has a renovated course and this year has hosted two tournaments of the European Senior Tour and the Ladies European Tour.
