Talor Gooch, individual winner of the LIV Golf Andalucía, talks about his return to Real Club Valderrama from July 12 to 14.
-2023 was obviously a very important year for you and a particularly fruitful weekend in Andalusia. What memories do you have of last summer at Valderrama?
-I have many memories. The first one that comes to mind is obviously the last hole, making the putt to win the tournament. The course is spectacular. Andalusia is a beautiful region. I had my family there with me. It was fun to beat Bryson there on the last hole, and the fans are incredible. There were a lot of expectations, of the course and how the week would go. And I have to admit it lived up to it. So we’re looking forward to going back.
-How do you approach the weekend and what did you learn from last year that will help you play better this year?
-Knowing that I’ve played well there, it’s nice to go back to a place where you’ve played well. It gives you confidence and obviously I like the course, especially the greens. It fits my style of play, with my particular way of hitting the ball.
-This is your third team in three years, so you’re really mixing it with some of the greats in golf. You’ve already achieved success in the individual championship – are you looking at taking the team title?
-The first year, when we won the team championship in Miami with the 4Aces, I thought there was nothing sweeter than celebrating a team win, right? So that’s the goal and we’ve been talking all year as a team that we want to win it all. It’s going to be a fun second half of the season. And hopefully we can get to play well heading into that last event.
-Outside the field, what are you most looking forward to back in Spain?
-Good food, good wine and being there with my family and friends. As I said, this part of the world is beautiful. My wife and I said last year that if it wasn’t so far away, we could see ourselves spending a lot of time here.
