The statements of Sergio Garcia, captain of Fireballs GC, in the week prior to the celebration of LIV Golf Andalucia 2024, which will take place at the Real Club de Valderrama from July 12 to 14.
-Valderrama is a circuit you know very well, where you have already achieved several successes. How does that influence your preparation for the weekend and do you think it helps your chances of victory?
-Valderrama is my favorite course. I’ve done very well almost every time I’ve played there, which always helps. But every week is different, and we go with the best expectations, hoping to do our best and give the Spaniards a lot to celebrate.
-Outside the field, what are you most looking forward to back in Spain?
-I’m looking forward to everything: seeing the Spanish public, the fans cheering us on and, of course, the food. It’s an incomparable region of the world and one of the most prized in Spain.
-You share a team with young talents such as David Puig and Eugenio López-Chacarra, what have you learned from them and how have you seen them progress?
-Even though I am the oldest and almost twice their age, you always learn from them as well. I try to help them, but at the same time I see the good things they do, and I try to learn from them. It’s always fun to be part of that, to see the potential they have and see how they evolve.
I have a young team and it motivates me a lot. Being the senior with a young and talented team is always nice. The only thing I tell them is to enjoy the game. Obviously, you have to play with your head, but try to enjoy it as much as possible and have a good time. Then we do the best we can.
