The enormous equality prevailing in the Alevín Male category, four players separated by two strokes at the end of the first day, resulted in an exciting last round decided in favor of Antonio Pina after submitting a card of 77 for a total of 160.
Among the women, Mimi Rhodes was proclaimed champion of Andalusia with the largest margin of all categories, no less than 13 strokes of difference with respect to the local player Marina Escobar Domingo.
In the Boys’ category, we lived another tachycardic final day with the intense duel between Pablo Alonso and Felipe Barrena Rodríguez. Both young golfers finished tied at 74 strokes (+2) in the opening round of the competition.
Already on the second day, Pablo Alonso ended up taking the victory after a new round of 74 strokes, to the 75 of his main rival.
As for the girls, Sara García, who arrived at the Almeria event as the favorite, gave no option for surprise and with a total of 155 strokes (75+80), added a new title to her brilliant record.
Regarding the Cadet Women’s category, the outcome lacked real excitement, a lack more than made up for by the colossal exhibition of play, and already a few in a row, of Maria Parra. In fact, the Cadiz player sealed the best overall (139 strokes, 5 under par) of the 137 participants who gathered at Golf Almerimar.
Meanwhile among the juniors, who were the first to finish, the new champion, Alejandro Rodriguez, had to look askance at the winner of the last edition, Daniel Casas Bagherian, author of a second round of 39 strokes, with which he climbed to second place, staying just one stroke behind the promising player from Alicante.
In the Women’s category, Marta López sought to defend the title she won a year ago at Atalaya Golf & Country Club in Costa del Sol, and with two solid cards of 42 and 41 strokes, she was proclaimed Andalusian champion for the second consecutive season.
Finally, as a finishing touch to these Andalusian championships, in the Cadet Male category, Gonzalo García, Álvaro de la Iglesia Ledesma and Francisco Rosete Fabos were forced to play a play-off after finishing the 36 holes tied at 143 strokes (-1).
The tremendous additional pressure of fighting for the title and the need to take risks at decisive moments did not prevent Gonzalo García from making a sensational birdie on the first hole of sudden death to seal a category of maximum emotion.
Once the outcome of this three-way play-off was known, the prizes were handed out in the presence of, among others, Manuel Garvayo, Acting President of the Children and Youth Committee of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation; Juan Francisco Escobosa, Director of Golf Almerimar; and Diego Molina, Chief Referee of the International Individual Championships Cadet, Children, Alevín and Benjamín of Andalusia Male and Female 2013.
