The first of these was the “India – Spain Costa del Sol Trophy” golf tournament played at Los Naranjos on June 27th and at La Cala Resort (Campo Europa) on June 28th.

A delegation of more than twenty Indian golfers arrived at the international airport of Malaga-Costa del Sol and stayed several days at the five-star Hotel La Cala.

As a special show of support for this initiative, the Ambassador of India in Spain, Sujata Mehta, travelled to the Mijas complex to preside over the closing ceremony of the competition. The ambassador thanked this type of initiatives that, besides allowing a greater knowledge between the residents of both countries, opens the possibility of the business world through golf.

The Spanish team was the winner of this match and its captain received the trophy from the Ambassador. The Indian captain also received a trophy from the representative of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board, Francisco Amorós.

Recent international studies on the global golf industry have highlighted India and China as potential source markets for golf tourists.

Golf is among the sports that are experiencing the greatest boom in India and La Cala Resort, through this special collaboration with the Costa del Sol Tourist Board and the Chandigarh Golf Association, becomes a pioneer in positioning the resort, in particular, and the Costa del Golf, in general, as a preferred golf destination for the Indian market.

This meeting has been an initiative of the Golf Area of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board in order to take advantage of the contacts we have in emerging markets with great potential such as India and to offer this Spanish tourist destination in a first approach to Indian residents in Europe, as a first step.
