
The team from Ireland “Galway” was proclaimed winner of the Final of the Junior Team Golf Home Nations Inter-Club Championship, one of the most important amateur tournaments in the world, held at Antequera Golf course.
During four days, from March 16 to 19, the best junior golfers of the United Kingdom have faced each other in the Antequera course, in a very close dispute that has allowed to see a very intense game in which the players thought each shot as if it were the final one, leaving the Irish club of Galway as the winner among the best golfers under 18 years old.
Thus 8 teams representing Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland have faced each other in the grand final at Antequera Golf to designate the best junior golf team in the UK. Over the past year more than 15,000 players under 18 years of age from more than 1,300 clubs in the United Kingdom have competed in various tournaments in Great Britain and Ireland. The best went on to regional finals and the winners of these to the national semifinals and finals.
The participating clubs that have measured their strengths in this edition were Carmarthen and Maesteg (Wales), Turnhouse and Gullane (Scotland), Carton House and Galway (Ireland), Huyton & Prescot, and Rochford Hundred.
The tournament, organized for the fourth consecutive year in Antequera Golf, has counted once again with the presence of television, which through the well-known Sky Sport channel will give all the broadcasting of this championship very soon to approximately 30 million viewers, reason enough for the young players to show great tension and at the same time enthusiasm in each of their strokes. Undoubtedly this competition is an exceptional showcase to show the world the best junior golf from the heart of Andalusia.
The organization of the tournament chose this golf course for its geographical location, good conditions of the course with fast greens, in addition to having a hotel infrastructure of 4 and 5 stars, where the players and their families have been accommodated throughout the competition.
At the end of the tournament Ramón Jiménez, CEO of Antequera Golf, and José Rodríguez, captain of the Antequera course, presented the victory trophy to the Irish champions.
The official trophy ceremony took place at a gala dinner held last night at the Hotel Convento La Magdalena, with the presence of the mayor of Antequera, Manuel Baron, the representative and marketing manager of Turismo Andaluz, Manuel Ortega, the CEO of Antequera Golf, Ramon Jimenez, the director of Antequera Golf hotels, Rafael Trujillo, the course captain, Jose Rodriguez and the organizer of the championship, David Last, as well as all participating athletes and family members.
