Iván Cantero has presented his credentials to the title on the second day of the Andalusia Cup, a competition scoring for the World, National and Andalusian Ranking, which is taking place at Lauro Golf. With a spectacular round of 66 strokes (6 under par) for 139 (-5), the Asturian player has climbed to first place and accumulates a juicy lead of 5 strokes over José Bondía, Juan Francisco Sarasti and Toni Ferrer. Next, tied at 145 strokes, are Richard Flaxman and Jordi Flotats.
In the provisional top ten of the tournament there are four Andalusians: Victor Pastor (7th) with 146 strokes, and Jose Mateo, Leonardo Lilja and Jacobo Cestino, tied in ninth position with two other players.
Once again, the best amateur players in Spain have gathered at the Copa de Andalucía. In fact, more than thirty participants, of the 110 who took the start, have a handicap equal to or less than zero, which gives an idea of the level of a competition that last year was won by Victor Pastor from Cordoba at the Club de Golf La Cañada.
Among the foreign participants, the host club itself has provided four players of Finnish nationality, in a clear commitment made by this course, located in the municipality of Alhaurín de la Torre, to promote the sport of high competition, in this case through agreements with federations in northern Europe, where the practice of golf is paralyzed in the winter period.
It is also worth mentioning the great work of preparation, care and maintenance that Lauro Golf is carrying out for this event, leaving the greens faster than usual and with other series of adaptations in the hardness of the fairway.
After today’s round, the cut has been established in the fiftieth position. Tomorrow there will be a final and exciting day where the best classified will play two rounds of 18 holes.
