Javier Ballesteros Botín, Severiano’s eldest son, has assumed the presidency of the Seve Ballesteros Foundation. Javier will have the full support of his siblings Miguel and Carmen, also trustees of the Foundation, in the performance of his new duties. From now on, Severiano’s three children will be in charge of the organization founded by their father and will try to ensure the fulfillment of the Foundation’s goals.
Seve’s three sons, together, will do everything in their power to preserve the spirit, the memory and the mark that their father left internationally. They will be in charge of channeling all that Seve was and represented towards initiatives that facilitate the incorporation of young people without resources to the world of golf, and that contribute value in the fight against the disease that prematurely interrupted his life.
Severiano Ballesteros was born on April 9, 1957 in Pedreña (Cantabria) and died on May 7, 2011 due to a brain tumor. He became a professional golfer in 1974 and, after several victories in national tournaments, he achieved his first international victory in the Dutch Open in 1976. His record, one of the best in the history of the sport, totals 93 titles, including five Majors: British Open 1979, 1984 and 1988 and Masters of Augusta 1980 and 1983.
The figure of Seve has been essential for the development of golf, not only in Spain but throughout Europe (especially in Continental Europe). He promoted and made the sport known in our country; he attracted sponsors to the European Tour, making it more attractive; he enthused the British public with a tremendously imaginative game; he inspired the following generations; and, above all, he changed the course of the Ryder Cup, which, thanks to his contribution, reached a new dimension. Seve was characterized not only by his passion and genius in the execution of difficult shots, but also by his great charisma, both on and off the course.
