“The balance of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters is very positive”.
The general manager of the Real Club Valderrama, Javier Reviriego, is very satisfied with how the tournament went. “The balance is very positive,” he says, “there have been many new developments, not only because of the new date, but also because of the new sponsor, Estrella Damm, so that with Andalucía we now have two very powerful sponsors.”
“Also,” he continues, “we are logically very happy to have had Jon and Sergio and that they were both on top during the weekend”.
“In terms of organization, public and media impact,” he continues, “we are very satisfied; and also in terms of sports, although the winner was unexpected, but he deserved it because he played better than anyone else and it was an unquestionable victory. His story of overcoming is very beautiful and has had a lot of repercussion in the media”.
From the Club’s point of view, Reviriego wants to emphasize that for the Real Club Valderrama “the most important thing is that the course is shown on television, that the entire world audience appreciates its beauty”. “For us,” he concludes, “it has been a great success, it has looked and a different Valderrama has been seen than in other editions, with harder greens, less receptive and that logically have made the course more difficult.”
Reviriego points out that, despite all the positive aspects, “there are things that we have identified that can be improved and we will do so for next year”.
Regarding the number of spectators on the course, the general manager of the Real Club Valderrama indicates that this edition has been better than previous ones, “about 43,000, but we would like to have more and for the event to continue to grow”.
On the change of dates of the event and the possibility that they may vary next year, he says the following: “We are seeing with the European Tour several options of dates, all of them in the months of May or June. It will be at that time and we are not going to go back to October in any case. The thing is that next year the whole calendar is complicated due to the Olympics and the Ryder Cup”.
Another aspect addressed by Reviriego is the prize money, which this year has experienced an outstanding increase, going from two to three million euros. “Our objective is to increase it,” he assures, “but we cannot confirm it yet. We are in full negotiation with the Junta de Andalucía for the extension of the sponsorship contract, which ended this year. We are working on it, and also talking to different companies to try to get them to join the tournament as co-sponsors”.
The general manager points out that Real Club Valderrama is “very satisfied” with Estrella Damm’s involvement in the tournament because “it has done a great job of activation, with concerts and leisure areas, and we are all working together to make the event more and more attractive”.
