Justin Thomas and Lexi Thompson have been included in the 2018 “Top Ten Best Mannered People” list, published by the National League of Junior Cotillions (NLJC) of the United States. The list, which has been topped by quarterback (football) Drew Brees, has included sports and entertainment figures from around the world. Brees was selected “for exemplary conduct both on and off the field and outstanding contributions to families in need through the Brees Dream Foundation.”
Brees is one of six athletes on the list and one of three quarterbacks chosen, along with Clemson University’s Trevor Lawrence and the University of Alabama’s Jalen Hurts.
The other athlete, apart from the aforementioned golfers, is Steph Curry, point guard for the Golden State Warriors.
Actors Mark Wahlberg and Will Smith, along with singer Ed Sheeran and actress/singer Zendaya Coleman rounded out the list.
“Selections are made based on each person’s commitment to honor, dignity and polite conduct,” said NLJC Chairman Charles Winters. “We believe these ten individuals have distinguished themselves through excellence of character and conduct and we applaud them for their contributions to society,” he added.”
Justin Thomas, 25, earned his place on the list “for consistently treating his fans and colleagues with respect and kindness,” according to the NLJC. Thomas, after being named Player of the Year in 2017,lived up to expectations and finished 2018 with two wins and 11 top 10s.
Lexi Thompson’s recognition came “for demonstrating poise and professionalism in the spotlight,” according to the NLJC. It was a busy year for Thompson. The 23-year-old star was involved in two rules controversies, one in Thailand in February and another in August at the Indy Women Tech Championship . She stepped away from the game for several weeks, ruling out even the Women’s British Open to “recharge mental batteries,” she said. In October, Thompson used Instagram to talk about confidence issues with her body and self-image.
Fortunately Thompson capped the year with success: with her brother as caddie, she claimed her first win of the season, at the CME Group Tour Championship.
The goal of the NLJC, an entity founded in 1989, is to “act and learn to treat others with honor, dignity and respect for the best relationships with family, friends and associates, and to learn and practice ballroom dancing.”
