La Cala Resort: a great experience on the Costa del Sol

Situated in the Sierra de Mijas, with spectacular views of the stunning Andalusian countryside, La Cala’s magnificent 54-hole resort offers an idyllic retreat just 20 minutes from Marbella and only 30 minutes from Malaga airport.

The three magnificent championship courses at La Cala – America Course, Asia Course and Europa Course – each with 18 holes and designed by famed golf course architect Cabell Robinson, guarantee a truly exhilarating experience.

Asia Course. Formerly known as the South Course, it is the oldest golf course at La Cala Resort and also the most challenging, making it the most respected by golf professionals. It has narrow and short fairways, and 4 par 5 holes for which special expertise is required in the game, especially in short approach shots.

Among the holes of the Asia course that require special expertise in the game, the 10th, with its classic design, the 3rd and the 14th, with their hazards, the 5th and the 18th stand out. The play of these holes is decisive to obtain a good score on the course.

America Field. Formerly known as the North Course, it enjoys spectacular views of the Sierra de Ojén and the Mediterranean. It is a wide course with few bunkers, which makes it a relatively easy course. The main difficulty lies in its mountainous topography, with slopes covered with bushes and small elevated greens, which require the selection of the precise golf club for the game. There are water hazards on holes 9 and 16.

Europa Course. This course is a little wider than the other two courses at La Cala Resort. Due to its design, with wide fairways and flatter terrain, it is the ideal course for medium level players. It has a main bridge and four other bridges to cross the Ojén River along its course, as well as tunnels to move around with the buggy. The 14th hole is at the limit allowed for a par 3, at 233 meters. And the 11th hole of par 5 is the longest, with 524 meters.

Academy, restaurant, spa, soccer, paddle tennis, tennis… La Cala Golf Academy is located in this splendid Costa del Sol resort. Here, multilingual professionals give individual and group lessons, both to beginners and more experienced golfers who want to continue improving their game. Golf professionals are available to pass on their expertise through a wide variety of programs for both adults and children through the Juniors Summer Camp.

La Cala Resort has accommodation and facilities of the highest standard, including a 107-room hotel with excellent bars and restaurants. Last March, the resort inaugurated its new clubhouse, now called “The Clubhouse Bar & Restaurant”, with a menu based on top-quality, zero-kilometer products.

The new restaurant, which completes the renovations made to the terrace last year, is now a modern and light-filled space with views of the golf course, the hotel and the nature that surrounds this resort located in the heart of the Costa del Sol. To accompany the new facilities, its executive chef, Brian Deegan, has designed a new menu that incorporates dishes of greater complexity, along with the traditional dishes of the La Cala clubhouse.

With one of the most comprehensive hydrothermal treatment centers in all of Europe, combined with a variety of relaxing treatment offerings, La Cala Resort’s luxurious spa facilities offer all guests and visitors a perfect place to escape and relax. Other leisure opportunities include a FIFA-standard soccer field, an athletics circuit, a gymnasium and paddle tennis, tennis and squash courts.

As voted by the tour operators of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), La Cala is one of the resorts that offers “the best experience and service for its clients traveling for golf,” a title that only eight other resorts in Spain received in this year’s awards. This award follows the recent recognition by industry leader Golf World Top 100 Rankings, which ranked La Cala as the third best resort in Spain, the first 4-star resort in Spain and number 13 in Continental Europe.
