La Cala Resort pays tribute to designer Cabell Robinson

Cabell Robinson, one of the most prolific golf course designers on the Costa del Sol, has received a well-deserved tribute in recognition of his long and successful professional career. La Cala Resort has been the scene of an emotional ceremony in which the American designer, who has been living in Spain for almost 60 years (50 years on the Costa del Sol), has unveiled a commemorative plaque in his honor.

Cabell, author of the three 18-hole courses at La Cala Resort (Asia, Africa and America), worked with legendary designer Robert Trent Jones for 17 years before going independent and signing his own designs (the Asia course was the first).

In the crowded ceremony, which brought together many people from the world of golf, as well as municipal authorities, the general manager of La Cala Resort, Sean Corte-Real, and the councilman of Tourism Promotion of the Mijas Town Hall, Juan Carlos Maldonado, took the floor.

Cabell has also designed the courses of Finca Cortesín, La Reserva de Sotogrande, Santana Golf and Valle Romano on the Costa del Sol.

In Spain he also designed another course, Las Colinas, in Alicante and is the author of courses in Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Cyprus and Morocco.

La Cala Resort, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, is one of the most important golf resorts in Europe. In addition to its three 18-hole courses, it has a hotel, a spectacular spa and a major real estate development.
