With only one week of margin with respect to the famous Solheim Cup, the Open de España Femenino, which will take place at La Quinta Golf & Country Club (Benahavís, Málaga) between September 15 and 18 with the sponsorship of the Patronato de Turismo de la Costa del Sol, has the assured presence of the best players of the European continent, whose top stars will play, just five days later, the spectacular confrontation between the European team and the North American team in Irish lands.
The Spanish tournament will therefore become the last opportunity to see in action many of the golfers who will defend the European honor in the 2011 Solheim Cup and the scene of a fight for the title that, as every year, is fierce, with editions that have been resolved by playoffs or by just a stroke difference, as happened last year in Flamingos, when Laura Davies got a new triumph in her prolific career after beating the American media player Christina Kim in extremis.
La Quinta Golf & Country Club will host the Open de España Femenino for the first time in its history, a tournament supported by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation.
As usual, one hundred and twenty professional players, including the most prominent players of the Old Continent, including Spanish players, as well as six amateurs, will fight for the title of the Open de España Femenino 2011 over four days, although only the top 60 classified at the end of the second round will have the opportunity to continue in the competition after passing the mandatory cut.
Founded in 1989, La Quinta Golf has a well-deserved and internationally recognized reputation for its high level of quality, one of the busiest golf resorts on the Costa del Sol designed in its day by Manuel Piñero.
