La Reserva Club to host the LET’s Aramco Team Series Sotogrande in August

La Reserva Club de Sotogrande has been announced as the venue for the Aramco Team Series de Sotogrande, which is part of the Ladies European Tour (LET), will take place from August 5-7.

The innovative three-day tournament, backed by Aramco, will be open to the public and will feature $1 million in prize money, just like the first series of the event, which took place this past weekend in London. The winning team will take home $800,000, while the player who records the lowest individual score of the weekend will win $200,000.

The Spanish, ready to conquer Sotogrande

The best Spanish golfers have already confirmed their participation in the Aramco Team Series: Maria Hernandez, in the top 30 in the ranking of the Ladies European Tour – Race to Costa del Sol; and the three-time champion of LET tournaments, Nuria Iturrioz. They will be joined by rising stars Natasha Fear, Carmen Alonso and Noemí Jiménez Martín, who will compete alongside the best players on the European circuit.

María Hernández highlighted that “It is incredibly exciting to see how the new global format of the Aramco Team Series comes to our country. It is a great opportunity to show the world the best Spanish golf, so that the fans also attend and that Spanish players can count on their support in the Ladies European Tour. This is a great opportunity so that more women are encouraged to play golf and to practice sport in general, both in Spain and in the World”.

An innovative competition

The unique format of the Aramco Team Series offers amateurs the chance to play on the professional tours alongside some of the biggest names in women’s golf.

All competing teams will have three LET players paired through a unique draft system, in which the captains choose one player and are assigned another. The fourth member of each team is an amateur golfer, a position open to any golfer from Spain through the tournament’s Team Up competition.

This means that it could be up to an amateur golfer to sink a winning putt in the LET tournament, thus securing prize money for the professional players, something unique in the world of golf.

Natasha Fear added: “Having the opportunity as an amateur player, regardless of your handicap, to join the pros at the event is a unique and great opportunity. Team Up offers amateur golfers a special opportunity to experience life on tour over three days of competition; improve their game at the hands of the best; and have fun along the way.”

This tournament is the second of five Aramco-sponsored events scheduled in 2021, which kicked off with Team Olivia Cowan’s victory in the Aramco Team Series – London tournament held at the Centurion Club last weekend.
After Spain, the next Aramco Team Series event moves to New York (October 14-16) with the final leg in Jeddah (November 10-12). The Jeddah competition will take place a few days after the Aramco Saudi Ladies International, presented by the Public Investment Fund, which will be held from November 4-7.

The tournament will adhere to COVID-19 protocols, as well as local and government guidelines. For more information on attendance, visit aramcoteamseries.com or follow the event on social media @aramco_series.

Amateur players can earn the chance to join the pros as part of the Team Up competition by submitting a video playing golf, using #ATSTeamUp.
