Luke Donald, American Tour Player of the Year

Another new title for Luke Donald, who is having the best season of his life. The British player becomes the second English player, following in the footsteps of his compatriot Nick Faldo in 1990, to be elected Player of the Year of the PGA Tour, the American Tour. This award was created in 1948.

Donald, 33 years old and current best player on the planet, with his victory last Sunday in Florida (Disney Classic) managed to finish the season on top of the winnings list.

In the earnings ranking of the European Tour (Race to Dubai), Donald is also in the lead at the moment and with a comfortable advantage. If he finishes the year in the lead, he would become the first in history to top the winnings charts of the most important circuits on both sides of the Atlantic.

“It has been a tremendous year for me,” said the British player, who was competing for the title of Player of the Year with the American Webb Simpson, also winner, like Donald, of two PGA Tour tournaments this season. In the end, the English player, with 60 points, was four ahead of Simpson. In third place in the fight for the award was the American Nick Watney, with 40 points.

Donald has fourteen top-10 finishes in his nineteen appearances this year on the PGA Tour, where he also won the Vardon Trophy for being the player with the lowest average score over the season.

With so many accomplishments, Donald still has one major challenge left in his career: to win a major.
