After yesterday’s first round, María Hernández leads the Santander Golf Tour tournament being played at the Lauro Golf course in Costa del Sol.
The first holes allowed the players to be aggressive and look for birdies. However, Lauro Golf defended well and no player managed to finish with a bogey-free round, the birdies would come again in the last holes, including an eagle on the 16th hole, par 4 by María Palacios, the player from Castellón, recently naturalized Peruvian. On the 17th hole there were also two eagles by Gabrielle Macdonald and Camilla Hedberg that allowed them to climb to second and fifth place respectively.
The day progressed and the first players began to arrive at the 18th hole, one of the most difficult of the course. Only four players would finish under par, in a morning complicated by the wind that reached 18 km/h.
Maria Hernandez reached the 18th hole as solo leader with a final round of 69 strokes, three under par. Behind the British Gabrielle Macdonald finished in second place thanks to a card of 70 strokes. Maria Parra, third, finished as the best Andalusian and very happy with her round: “My boyfriend came with me today, he brought me the bag, and it had been a long time since I had played so well. The irons and the drive I played very well, the pity has been the putts, I have not managed to put them in. Tomorrow I hope it will be a great putting day, because if I keep playing this well I can go very low”.
After finishing her round, Maria Hernandez said she had a very solid round: “I played pretty solid from tee to green. I had opportunities from the first moment and it was a pity that I missed so many putts because the round was very good, but the truth is that I didn’t get into trouble and I played very comfortably”. In addition, the Navarrese said she was confident for tomorrow: “I only made one bogey, on the 16th, but these are things that happen and tomorrow I will try to continue in the same line and see if the putts go in. Lauro is very good, the greens are in very good condition and tomorrow we will make a lot of putts”.
Today the second and last day will be played starting at 8:30 a.m. from the 1st tee. The star match will be played by María Hernández, Gabrielle Macdonald and María Parra.
