Masters kicks off on the day the great Seve would have turned 58 years old

As fate would have it, the annual tournament with the largest following in the world, the Masters, begins on April 9, the same day that the great Severiano Ballesteros, author of so many magical strokes at Augusta National, would have turned 58. Seve won his first green jacket in 1980 and his second, three years later.

The Spanish pavilion is represented this time in the first Grand Slam event of the year by Sergio García, Miguel Ángel Jiménez and José María Olazábal.

A tournament with a more uncertain prognosis than ever starts on this date. The logical favoritism that must be attributed to the defending champion, an irregular Bubba Watson in 2015, competes with the following that the fans will give to the world number one Rory McIlroy, and his predecessor at the top of world golf, Tiger Woods, who is an unknown quantity but who should be kept in mind that he has won the tournament four times (1997, 2001, 2002 and 2005).

Sergio García, on the other hand, lands in Georgia looking for good sensations. Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who enjoys a course that for others can be a torment, is more experienced at the beginning of 2015. His fourth place last year is a valid reference. José María Olazábal, winner of the 1994 and 1999 editions, is not coming at a bad time either.

In addition, it is impossible to ignore Adam Scott (winner in 2013), Phil Mickelson (2004, 2006 and 2010) and company. They too will have to deal with the slight variations introduced in the course in 2014, such as the disappearance of the mythical Eisenhower Tree, which greatly modifies the playing strategy on the 17th.
